Magicka regen drove me nuts coming to Morrowind from Oblivion. Other skills work similarly, so try and have 25% minimum before you rely on a skill. So you can't just flail away with 5% skill in a weapon and expect it to level up - you need a bit of basic skill before you can reliably hit something. For the combat, just remember that it's dice based behind the scenes. The biggest issues most people have with Morrowind are the combat, lack of magicka regeneration, and movement speed. I find I stop noticing pretty fast once I start playing.

Mo0rrowind graphics are a little dated, sure. On the other hand, if you're interested in the lore, Morrowind is the place to be. It ticks most of your "Pro" column, and doesn't really have any of the cons. Should I try Skyrim again now that I've been able to get through an Elder Scrolls game? Or should I go for Morrowind? The game can randomly crash SO MANUALLY SAVE A LOT! My character would stand there unable to move for about a minute before I could start walking again. The environment itself is gorgeous, but the people? Not so much. There's a bit of everything: Puzzles, running around, crafting, story, the arena, heavy armor and destructive abilities with massive two-handed weapons, light armor, and health and illusion abilities with long-range and one-handed weapons. There is a great balance between narrative, exploration, and action. Autosave works great and the game has fast loading times.

Playstyle can easily be changed without having to start over if you don't like your original build. Controls are easy to get a handle on so I'm not accidentally pushing the wring keys (I played keyboard/mouse) when I start panicking around enemies. Hail Citizen! Welcome to /r/oblivion!
